Barnegat Lighthouse.

The Barnegat Lighthouse is located in Barnegat Light, New Jersey on the island of Long Beach Island. The lighthouse is right on the Barnegat Bay.The lighthouse was built in late 1856. Barnegat Light is the second tallest lighthouse in the United States of America. One hundred and sixty-five feet above sea level, stands the lighthouse's light. The navigation use of the light at the Barnegat Lighthouse was navigating boats around until August 1927. This is when the "Barnegat Lightship" was dropped into the water, 8 miles off the coast of Long Beach Island. Although the lighthouse was not used as much, the lighthouse light was reduced 80%. But sadly, in January of 1944, the light house was no longer in use. In 1988 the township of Barnegat Light shut down the lighthouse for some repairs. The lighthouse was reopened in 1991. Still today may people visit the Barnegat Lighthouse, and climb her 217 steps. And once you reach the top of the lighthouse you get to see the lovely beauty of the ocean and the island of Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
